Hey there, fellow Mexican food-loving friends! Are you looking for a delicious, easy appetizer for your Friday night get-together or Saturday game day? Would you like me to show you how to make that amazing white queso or “white cheese dip” that Mexican restaurants charge a premium for? I’ve got the best homemade Mexican white cheese dip recipe for you! Your friends and family are going to love it!
How This Recipe Came About
Our family’s favorite food is Mexican food and we love our local Mexican restaurant where they serve the best white cheese dip! It’s very expensive for such a small amount!! As the prices kept going up, I decided it was time to learn how to make it for myself. I experimented with countless white queso recipes and almost gave up when I couldn’t quite get it right.
I’m certainly glad I didn’t give up because now we can have the best Mexican white cheese dip, that doesn’t break the bank. It makes Taco Tuesday even more exciting. Do we stick to Taco Tuesday? Not exactly! But our family’s favorite thing to eat is tacos (especially when paired with our easy homemade queso), so we end up having them quite often.
Do we still go to our favorite Mexican restaurant? Yes, but not very often!! And, we hardly ever buy the Mexican cheese dip!
With this white queso dip recipe, you can really mix it up. Simply add your taco meat to it and you have queso con carne. You can make grilled chicken, and rice, and pour your homemade Mexican white cheese dip over that. Now you have your favorite dish from the Mexican restaurant right at home!
Ok, I’ll stop raving about how good it is and teach you how to make this homemade Mexican white cheese dip!!

Notes
Tips From For Making White Cheese Dip
- Tip: Stir continously you do not want it to burn to the bottom of your saucepan.
- Tip: Using more than 2 pickled jalapenos will be a little spicier.
- Tip: If you use more than 2 tablespoons of pickled jalapeno juice, it can distort the taste. So if you add more, add slowly and taste to see.
- Tip: White American sliced cheese from the deli counter has given me the best results.
- Tip: When reheating you may need to add some milk.
- Tip: Heat for 30 seconds at a time and stir. Be careful not to overheat.
- Tip: If you reheat, make sure to use a separate bowl and portion out what you need so as not to reheat the same cheese over and over.
- Tip: If you need a thinner consistency add a little more milk.
- Tip: Use Land O’ Lakes cheese it makes the difference. If you can’t get this brand try Boar’s Head I’ve heard it’s just as good.
Extra Thoughts And Variations:
- You can use Velveeta queso blanco but it’s going to give you a little different flavor.
- You can add green chilies to your white cheese sauce and it will add to the flavor. Some Mexican restaurants do it this way and it’s still good!
- Use your ground beef taco meat, put it in the pan or your slow cooker, and mix It with your white queso if you want queso con carne. It’s amazing that way as well. Our family adds ground beef to our individual bowls because not all the kids like it this way.
- This white queso recipe can be paired with your chicken tacos, beef tacos, or any other Mexican-style dish you like.
