Simple Productivity Tips for Moms: Finding Balance In The Busy
Being productive and finding balance in the busy is something we all wish we could accomplish. When you read the headline “Simple Productivity Tips for Moms: Finding Balance In The Busy”: does it make you feel like it’s just a fairytale? Do you want to know more, but you’re not sure you can really attain balance in the busy?
I totally understand the feeling of drowning in the busyness of the day. It’s so hard to find balance when you’re trying to juggle everything around you. As a mom you want to enjoy these days with your kids and you don’t want to feel overwhelmed. I understand this, I have had the same struggles! Let me share some productivity tips for moms that have helped me in finding balance along this journey.
PRIORITIZE TASKS
WRITE THINGS DOWN!!! If you do not write things down you will forget something very important. Make a to-do list and prioritize it with the most important things first. This helps keep you focused on the important tasks and helps you accomplish them first without procrastination.
- TIP: I use this home planner by Passionate Penny Pincher to write things down and it’s extremely helpful! Only write down the specific tasks in that day that you will have time for. Use a notebook as a “brain dump” spot to write all the things you would like to accomplish eventually in that week.
CREATE ROUTINES
I can’t stress enough how routines help entire families to function better! It gives structure to the day and helps everyone one feel less frazzled. Each day may not look the same but when you get on a daily and weekly routine, things start to feel more balanced. Any time we are not in a routine the whole house feels like it’s in chaos.
- TIP: Use a paper planner, digital calendar, or block schedule calendar to block out the times you need to for God, family, housework/work, self-care and outside fun. Try this free printable I have created here.
DELEGATE AND ASK FOR HELP
Delegate things to your kids or spouse. Not all spouses are willing to help but if they are willing, include them. When my kids became big enough to help out with household chores it was a game changer. Each day they are able to jump in and help out which makes life run a lot smoother. If there is a struggle, encourage your children with a reward system.
- TIP: Print out a chore list and assign each family member different tasks for the week. This will help lighten the load and teach kids responsibly along the way.
USE APPS
There are so many apps and online tools at our finger tips that will help make us with productivity as moms. Try using banking, budgeting, fitness, grocery, and meal planning apps. These can help cut down on a lot of extra work.
- TIP: There are apps such as MealBoard that help you create meals and keep a list of pantry items, recipes, and shopping lists all in one. Use apps such as Walmart for grocery pick up orders. This will avoid having to take the kids into the store, which will cut down on time spent.
SELF CARE
Taking care of yourself will help you in your productivity as a mom and to find balance. Get on a sleep schedule if possible. There are many benefits going to bed and getting up at the same time everyday for our mind and bodies. Get up before your kids if possible and have your own time in the morning. Spend time with devotions, working out, and any self care you can get out of the way before they rise helps you feel less stressed as well.
- TIP: Use Youversion Bible app is helpful with devotions. Fiton app is helpful for quick workouts at home and its free. Noom is helpful to keep track of your meals you eat and calories you take in.
Minimize Distractions
Put down electronics and focus! Minimizing distractions is very important to get things accomplished quickly. How many of us have picked up our phones to check something while we were working and then eventually find ourselves down the “black hole”. Whatever your distractions are, try to minimize them. The quicker you can get things done and behind you, the more motivated you become.
- TIP: Set a 10 min timer (or however long you need) and try to beat the timer on certain tasks. Play music or listen to something as you tackle your to-do list. Call a friend and “clean along with them” if that helps.
BE ABLE TO ADJUST AND BE FLEXIBLE
Let’s face it, mom life can be unpredictable at times. As much as you try to establish routines and go to bed on time, there will be things that come up from time to time that can throw your day off. A child may get sick and keep you up at night or they may have to come home from school early. Life can be unpredictable some days, be ready to adjust and be flexible. Give grace to yourself and others when facing these unexpected days.
- TIP: Review routines and make sure they are working for you and adjust them if necessary. When things come up unexpectedly, do what you can and let go of what you can’t. Remember to give grace to yourself and others!
Simple productivity as a mom includes planning, flexibility, and self care. By following these simple productivity tips for moms, you will enjoy a more productive, organized, fulfilled daily life along with finding balance in the busy. I love these tips and am definitely going to start using a planner again. I used one religiously for lesson planning when I was a teacher, but didn’t see the point as a stay at home mom until reading your post. Excited to implement this!
