Have you ever needed a creative way to have devotions when you’re busy on the run? We know it’s important to have time with Jesus, but maybe you overslept your alarm, or maybe a baby had you up half the night. There are a lot of things that happen along our mothering journey that can hinder our time with Jesus, especially when the kids are smaller.
The strategy of the devil is to interrupt our quality time reading and praying. He will use legitimate circumstances to make us too busy or too distracted. Therefore, we have to combat the enemy in any way we can. Here are a few creative ways to be an overcomer and still get those devotions in even on the run.
1. Download a Bible App
Download a Bible app on your phone or tablet and listen to the scripture while folding clothes, working on dishes, driving, or any other scenario that you can think of that’s on the go. You can even put your earbuds in and listen while in public places if you have to.
You may feel like being on the go is more distracting and you can’t focus on what is being said. If there’s a time when you get sidetracked and are not listening, just rewind and listen to that chapter again. Make sure you’re comprehending what is being said and retain it. Maybe even pause it and pray about something Jesus has shown you. Sometimes listening to scripture helps the stories come alive to you and you can see it better in your mind.
2. Pray Anywhere
Pray anywhere you are. It doesn’t have to be out loud. There have been times I’ve had one of my kids crawl in my bed early in the morning. I had to lay very quietly so they would go back to sleep. In situations like these, pray silently, and still get prayer time in before they are up and moving around.
You can pray while taking a shower, washing the dishes, sweeping the floor, or folding laundry. Pray for each person in your household as you fold their clothing. You can also pray driving down the road. Jesus hears you wherever you are and knows your heart. Yes, it is nice to have that focused quiet time with Him on a day-to-day basis. But, when circumstances arise and you can not have your normal devotions, choose to pray anyway, however, it works that day.
3. Use Your Lunchtime At Work
On days when you are not able to have your devotions before you leave for work, use your lunch break. Maybe you carpool with others and can’t listen to the bible or can’t pray because you’re surrounded by noise, use your lunch break. Try to find a quiet spot or put earbuds in that drown out the noise and focus on Jesus. This is just another way to be creative and get devotions in on the run.
4. Youtube/Podcasts/Music
These are great ways to connect with Jesus on the go as well. After you listen to your bible and pray, turn on a sermon or bible study on YouTube or listen to a Christian podcast that you trust. This will help you to understand more of God’s word and help you to grow. You can also listen to worship music as you go. This will help to cultivate God’s presence.
The Reasons To Overcome and Have Devotions On The Run
The enemy will always try to steal your time with Jesus, for he knows that is where your strength lies. You need to do everything within your power to fight back against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 10-11 says, “Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Let’s get our armor on, stand our ground, and never give the enemy an inch. Be creative in finding time to stay close to Jesus.

I never thought about a Bible app. I have a tension-filled relationship with God, but I would improve this situation. Thank you for great ideas.
