Where To Buy Cheap Fall Decorations

Do you want to cozy up your home for fall with warm and inviting autumn decorations, yet do not want to spend a ton of money doing so? It would be easy to spend a fortune if you go to retail stores and grab everything you like at once. But, with some patience and some resourcefulness, you can save money when going to buy cheap fall decorations if you get strategic about it.

Let me share some simple tips on where to buy cheap fall decorations to transform your house for the season, without breaking the bank.

Thrift Stores

Thrift stores are a great place to buy cheap fall decorations. They are filled with new, vintage, and gently used treasures.

I do realize that thrift stores may not be for everyone, but wow, you can sure save money on the things you are looking for if you’re willing to go this route. There will be times you can find items brand new with tags for a fraction of the price you would pay outright in a retail store.

Not all thrift stores are nice, but if you have them in your area, check them out and see if this route works for you. You never know the treasures you may find.

Tips:

  • Look often because inventory changes frequently.
  • Sometimes you can repurpose things that aren’t 100% made for fall and make them into fall items.

Yard Sales

Just like thrift stores, yet sometimes even cheaper, yard sales are another place to buy cheap fall decorations. Homeowners will sometimes use their decor for one season and want something new for the next. They will often sell these items cheap to make room for new ones. You might find fall decorations still in the package that have never been opened from past seasons.

Tips:

  • Look through yard sale listings in advance and plan out your route to save on fuel.
  • Try to be the first one to the sale to get the best selection.
  • Sometimes the late comers get a deeper discount. So it’s always worth going even if you can’t go till later in the day.
  • It never hurts to negotiate on the price.
  • Be looking at yard sales in the spring as well. Obviously, fall items will sell at a yard sale any time of year.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is a great place to start when looking to buy cheap fall decorations. In fact, you do not have to leave the comfort of your own home to search for things. If you do not want to waste the money in fuel searching for fall decor at yard sales, or thrift shops, Marketplace is certainly a good choice for you. You can use the search tool to look specifically for that fall item you’re wanting.

Tips:

  • Make sure your mapping area is on and is filtered to how many miles away you are willing to travel.
  • Type in specific words such as fall decorations, pumpkins, fall wreaths, or whatever specific autumn decor you’re looking for.
  • Don’t be afraid to negotiate on the price if you’re not comfortable with the price they are asking.
  • Please be careful and make sure it’s not a scammer.
  • Do not give out your phone number or cc information.
  • Always meet in public places to get your item.

Post Holiday Sales

Stores such as Kohls, Walmart, Kirklands, Hobby Lobby, Target, and many other places will have deep discounted sales after the holiday is over. There will be times you can buy cheap fall decorations for just a few cents. For example, Walmart will sometimes have sprigs of leaves on clearance for ten cents after fall. Therefore, you can make up entire fall arrangement for just a dollar or two. The hard part is, you have to be willing to wait and buy the discounted items after the season.

(Pictured below: Sprigs from Walmart: 10 cents a piece total less than $2 for both pix. Water Can: $2 from yard sale. Buffalo Plaid Runner $2 from yard sale.)

If you start this year looking for post holiday sales, you could have a good selection for the next year with the deepest discounts. And the good thing is, it’s brand new. Let me tell you, in my world it has been worth the wait.

Tips:

  • Look at Walmart, Kirklands, Kohls, Target ect. the night of the holiday or the next early morning for best selection of sales.
  • Also, look at these stores a day or two later for the biggest discounts of the season. They continue to discount things as they stick around until it’s 90% off most times.
  • Not only look in store but online as well.
  • Store them well to keep the nice for the next fall season.

  1. The Dollar Tree has a good selection at times for cheap.
  2. Hobby Lobby will run 50% off sales during the fall season.
  3. The Dollar General has cute inexpensive fall decorations.
  4. Watch for sales or coupons from the different stores you like to shop.
