Hey friends! Would you like to make a lasagna recipe that’s easy, flavorful, and filled with lean ground beef and sausage?
This is truly the best lasagna recipe, and it’s not as hard as it might seem! If you’ve never made lasagna before, it can feel a little intimidating at first.
It may seem like a lot of steps, but once you try it, you’ll realize it’s easier than you thought—and so worth the effort when you take that first delicious bite.
Why is homemade lasagna the perfect meal?
- It’s versatile!: You can easily make it gluten-free by using gluten-free noodles and double-checking that your spices are gluten-free (mine are!).
- It’s freezer-friendly!: You can prepare it ahead of time and freeze it either before or after baking. If you freeze it make sure to use a freezer-safe lasagna pan and then wrap it in plastic wrap first and then aluminum foil so it doesn’t get freezer burn.
- It’s thoughtful!: This recipe is perfect for meal trains or to bring to a friend in need of a comforting, homemade dinner.
With its rich layers of meat, cheese, and sauce, this lasagna is guaranteed to be a family favorite!

Simple Ingredients
- 1 pound mild pork sausage
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Seasoning for the meat
- 2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons of parsley
- 3 eggs
- 32 oz ricotta cheese ( you can use two 15oz. ricotta cheese and it will taste the same.)
- 1 cup of parmesan cheese
- 5 cups of low-moisture mozzarella cheese
- 16 oz oven-ready noodles
- 45 oz Ragu Traditional pasta sauce
- 2 tsp. parsley- for garnish
Equipment Needed
- lasagna pan or a 9×13 deep casserole dish (if you do not have a deep casserole dish put a cookie sheet under the bottom of your (9×13))
- large skillet
- large bowl
- wooden spoon
- meat chopper
- aluminum foil
Step By Step Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large skillet add beef, pork sausage, seasonings for meat, and brown meat on medium-high heat.

- Drain then add pasta sauce to the skillet and heat.

- Using a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 3 cups of mozzarella cheese, 1 cup of parmesan cheese, and 3 eggs and mix until blended well.

- You can always use an electric mixer if you would like. I usually do this step while my meat is browning, helping things to move faster.
First Layer:
- In a deep casserole dish (9×13), cover the bottom of the dish with approximately 1.5 cups of the meat sauce.
- Next, cover the meat mixture with a layer of noodles.
- Then, take 1/3 of the cheese mixture and spread it evenly over the noodles.

Second Layer:
- Cover the cheese mixture with 1/3 of the meat sauce
- Add a layer of noodles
- Put 1/3 of the cheese mixture on top of the noodles and spread evenly.

Third Layer
- Repeat layer two

- Lastly, add the final layer of meat sauce and top with the 2 cups of mozzarella cheese you left out.
- Sprinkle the top with the parsley garnish.

- Cover the top of the lasagna with aluminum foil. (if the aluminum foil touches your lasagna, spray it with nonstick cooking spray so you don’t lose the top cheese layer to the foil)
- Bake for 1 hour. Pull off the foil and stick it back in the oven for 15 minutes. Let it rest for 20 minutes before serving so it will not be runny.
- Serve your perfect lasagna with garlic breadsticks or garlic toast.

Tips and Tricks To Prevent Lasagna From Being Runny:
- Put Ricotta cheese in a strainer and allow it to drain because it holds a lot of moisture.
- When combining the cheese filling, if it gets watery in the bottom of your bowl, take a paper towel and soak up the liquid.
- Make sure to drain all grease from the lean beef, and sausage.
- Let the lasagna set for 20 minutes after taking out of the oven.

Lasagna used to be a staple for me as a single parent- my children loved it. I’m a trained chef too I would get my children involved in making cheese sauce and tomato sauce- this I had set up them for being able to cook themselves. Which ever way you do this getting others involved makes it more fun too. 😊
It’s so fun to have our kids help in the kitchen. I love it!
